Creating a Clipping Mask (Optional)Updated 2 months ago
A clipping mask is a great way to visualise your design within the shape of the box. While not required for production, it can help you preview how colour or imagery wraps to the final structure.
How to create a clipping mask in Illustrator:
In the Layers panel, unlock the Template layer.
Select the dieline shape (usually the blue bleed line).
Copy it using
Command + C
(Mac) orCtrl + C
(Windows).Re-lock the Template layer once copied.
Select the artwork you want to mask.
Paste the bleed shape using
Command + Shift + V
to paste in place.Hold Shift and select both the artwork and the pasted shape.
Go to Object > Clipping Mask > Make.
This step is optional, and won't affect your print. Just remove or hide the clipping mask before exporting your final file.
